Right now there are lots of exciting things going on at the Pendergrass home. First and foremost David has now joined the quarter of a century club (His Birthday was on Sunday!). To celebrate we did a photo shoot of Lucy! Okay not really to celebrate, but we did do this photo shoot above on his birthday and I can't figure out how to move it to a lower position in my post (hey, at least I learned how to put a slideshow in a post so you don't have to scroll for hours), so once again Lucy takes the spotlight!

Here is a picture of the Birthday Boy. I wanted to mention that for only being 25, I think David has the most character of anyone I know. When it comes to being caring, patient, kind, honest, humble and truly serving others, those things are so innate in David. He doesn't even realize that he has mastered some of the hardest qualities it takes people their whole lives to even come close. And yet when he makes the smallest mistake he still worries so much that he didn't make the right choice. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to be with him forever and hope that in our life together some of his greatness will rub off on me. Thanks for holding up our family and taking such wonderful care of me and Lucy, David! I couldn't be a luckier girl!

Also, I thought it was a good time to explain what David and I are really doing in life right now, since you are all pretty sure we have a cute kid, but are wondering if we have jobs other than playing with her! This is the David, Wendy and Lucy Too page so it is high time I mention something about me and David. Here is the lowdown: David is currently camping (yes, literally he is camping to try and save money! Oh, how I love that man and his many adventures!)in Cedar City attending graduate school at Southern Utah University in Sports Performance and Conditioning. He will be there for two weeks doing all the hands on stuff and then be able to complete the rest of his year long program online from home. After a year of Grad school at BYU he decided Health wasn't exactly what he was going for, and a Sports training program was more what he wanted to do with his life. When he gets home he will be working on starting his own business while he is in school. He hopes to get a Fitness Boot Camp rolling somewhere here in Provo or Orem. We think it will go over big because it will be way more fun for people to get a great workout with a personal trainer in the outdoors doing interesting activities, opposed to being on some machine in a gym when its gorgeous outside! He has already got liability insurance and started talking to people about locations, so as soon as we get a definite location we will be ready to roll!

And now its my turn to talk about how cool I am. I passed my Real Estate License Exam on Saturday, so as soon as I sign on with a broker I will be ready to help all of you find your dream home! I am so proud of myself for finishing, because I only had a few classes left when Lucy was born and i thought it wouldn't be too hard to finish once I had her, but then I realized everyone going to school at BYU with 2 kids and making it look like it is easy are pretty much liars! Either that, or Lucy is just a special baby who needs her Mom. Anyway, go me! Next week, I will also start babysitting for a neighbor 3 times a week, which is such a blessing right now while David is trying to start up his own business. Other than that I am anxiously trying to publish children's stories while getting nowhere because I would rather blog about my life! Oh, and I forgot to mention my other hobby is taking pictures of Lucy, but I am sure you have realized that by now!

The other huge and monumental thing going on is that I am on a diet! Okay, I know some of you are thinking...what? Wendy, miss anti-diet herself who is always telling people "You are doing great, just try to eat healthy and don't give yourself strict rules or else you are bound to break them and then hate yourself," is going on a diet? Yes, actually I have been on it for 2 and 1/2 weeks now and been keeping it a secret from all of you, so I could lose tons of weight and then surprise everyone with how awesome I look! Just kidding! I am actually on a diet because we suspect Lucy has food allergies and since I am still her primary food source, I have eliminated all the common food allergens in my diet and will soon be slowly introducing each food back into my diet to see if there is a reaction. What are the common food allergens I am eliminating? oh just a few like: Nuts, Dairy, eggs, wheat and whole grains, soy, chocolate, seafood, berries or citrus fruits. Yes, I have actually eliminated all those from my diet for two weeks now. What am I eating? Well, less food than I ate before, that is for sure. I am not going to lie, it has been really hard to think of things to eat sometimes. Mostly I have been eating rice and chicken with vegetables. If you really look there are tons of substitutions for stuff and I am getting better at cooking with them. For instance, On David's Birthday he wanted biscuits and gravy, but he didn't want to eat it if I couldn't, so I made biscuits using rice flour for white flour, Rice milk for the milk and applesauce for the shortening. They were a little chewy and weird, but tasted okay. The gravy I also made with rice flour and rice milk. It turned out better than just edible so I was excited! I also made spice cake with a gluten free mix I bought at the Good Earth and Egg substitute. It was kind of good, hey at least we had somewhere to put the candles! You may think I am crazy for doing this, but Lucy's rashes have been improving, she has had fewer messy diapers (She used to be at about 10 a day, now we are at around 6), and most importantly she doesn't wake up every two hours anymore. It is funny because Lucy slept great until about 4 months she started waking up again which is right around the age some kids start developing food allergies. I felt very strongly with Lucy that I shouldn't let her cry it out to get her to sleep. I just knew something was wrong and it wasn't just a bad habit like the doctor said and now I am very glad I didn't because I probably would have missed this problem and then poor Lucy would just be miserable and alone in her misery. I think Mom's really know their children and have a very strong instinct when it comes to what is best for them. Anyway, I have done a lot of research on the subject and am finding this is actually a somewhat common problem ( in fact many kids have eczema because of a food allergy) so if any of you have kids with food allergies or suspect them feel free to ask me any questions about what I have learned or more importantly if you have to do a crazy diet like this ask me for recipes.

Well, that is what we have been up to. Pretty interesting, huh? Well, now you know why I would rather post cute pics of Lucy and talk about what she is doing, rather than rant and rave about crazy diets! But hey its life and I am learning how to love it more fully, even when I seem in the midst of trials!

Hi Daddy! Look what I can do...

This post is dedicated to David. There is really nothing too novel about a baby crawling...unless it is yours! Lucy started kind of crawling a few weeks ago. It was a combination of rolling, getting up on her hands and knees moving her hands forward then backward, back to sitting and then just rolling where she wanted to go in the first place. By the end of last week she did a tiny bit of a crawl with her legs (like maybe 3 crawls) and then, of course, the day David left she started crawling circles around the entire house. Anyway, David had been missing out on all the excitement I have been trying to explain on the phone, so here it is!

And it took about 10 minutes of bribing to get it. It only took 2 seconds once I threw Reeses all over the floor!


While trying to get the crawling moment, I got some hilarious mirror footage:



I turned the camera off when she bonked her head because I was sure she would cry and I was getting ready to rescue her. I couldn't believe she didn't even make a peep and just kept enjoying the mirror. I don't think it will be too long before Lucy can pull herself up on things. She is trying really hard, but has a hard time getting a good grip. Anyway, Lucy has quite the little mirror friend!

We sure love and miss you Dave! We are thinking of you all the time. Lucy says she will work really hard on her tricks while you are gone so she can show off when you get home!

There is beauty all around...even in my backyard!

I don't know if my memory is failing me, but I never remember our porch looking this much like paradise. Maybe it is because of all the rain we had this week. I don't know, but I'm in heaven! I really feel like we have a little piece of Paradise . Of course, I knew these weird feelings would start happening. About this time of year I always tell Dave, "I really don't mind living in Utah, we can stay here" and then the summer or winter hits and I'm like "wait, only 2 weeks of perfect weather? What is the deal?" Anyway, I am trying my hardest to appreciate it while it lasts!
We got this patio set for $40 last year at a yard sale. Grandpa would be proud! (He is a yardsaling man, if I ever met one!) And that is my little car, still holding strong after 8 years of life with Wendy Pendergrass.Lucy and I always (well, since it has been warm enough) just chill out here on the swing chair and look up at the flowers. She always points up at the flowers because she can hear the bees (she loves bees!). I always point up with her and talk to her about the bees and flowers.
And as much as we all love looking at random pictures of my yard, let's face it, a picture is always better if Lucy is in it (at least that is my philosophy, if you haven't noticed all the pictures I have of her!) So to make the picture complete, here is Lucy on the patio furniture.


I think Lucy said her first word (other than Mama and Dada, of course) . On Sunday, while I was posing her for a photo shoot she looked up at a bird, pointed and said something that started with a "b"! I was thrilled, but still a little unsure if that counted. A few minutes later another bird flew by and she did it again! Now, that was for real! I can't believe she was really listening to all the talk we have been doing about bird.

Lucy loves the grass, but I am worried she might be allergic because David is. It is hard for me to hold her back from exploring even when I know she shouldn't. I just love watching her learn and examine the world. Even at such a young age she truly cherishes her agency and is so upset when anyone tries to violate it.
She got a piece of grass, and is overjoyed while she examines it (this is within seconds of her putting it in her mouth and me fishing it out. Of course, there I go with my letting her explore, I couldn't take it away earlier because I wanted to encourage her learning, but I think I am the one who is really learning!)

Lucy has been dabbling in the Art of Yoga lately. Who would have known she could have invented so many poses! (Just for the record i didn't put her in any of these poses. She does them all on her own, I just obsessively follow her around with a camera to catch them all!)

Conversations to Remember

Yesterday our home teachers came over. One of our regulars was out of town, so our home teacher brought his father with him as a companion. While chatting and getting to know one another, he asked about Lucy "Does she abuse herself a lot?" I really didn't know how to answer. The last thing you want people asking about as a mother is abuse! After stumbling a little I said "Well, I guess sometimes she accidentally whacks herself with things." He responded "Well, like Eric here, he used to entertain himself for hours by himself." At first I was confused, and then I realized he had said "amuse herself" not "abuse herself." Dave thought he had said "abuse" as well and was wondering what on earth he was thinking. I laughed and explained to him my strange response. Anyway, just a funny day to day occurrence!(Anyway, you have got to love this little look of mischief! What a silly girl! I think she gets her great sense of humor from her Daddy.)

While on the subject Lucy has really started to amuse herself. She used to need me a lot, but ever since she started crawling last week she feels like life just got a whole lot better! Just for a little taste of our new life, all within one week of mobility Lucy has accomplished: breaking the antennae off our cd player (and it mysteriously is not reading cd's anymore, which I highly suspect Lucy of causing), after turning my head for one second her little finger was practically jammed in the outlet hole (okay, so that is my fault, I am a little behind on baby-proofing), this morning she learned to open the sliding closet, climb in and throw the shoes out (as pictured to the right), I have found leaves and paper in her diaper ( I guess our bodies don't digest tree very well), and last, but not least, last night while getting in bed I found Lucy awake, sitting up in the dark, not making a peep, just waiting for us on our bed (needless to say i was completely startled and worried about ever putting Lucy to sleep on my bed again). That is just a small look at the big adventures that are just beginning in my life. Hopefully, I will be able to do my job protecting this sweet little miracle from all the trouble she wants to get into! (It seems like every other picture I get of Lucy looks like this now, because she wants the camera sooooo badly and goes into attack mode!)

G-Pa and G-Ma

Since I got some great shots of Lucy and her Great Grands, I thought I would highlight David's Grandparents. David calls his Grandpa Dale and Grandma Betty "G-Pa and G-Ma." I think it is really cute! (David definitely gets his sense of Humor from his Grandpa. They are 2 peas in a pod! I think this could be very close to how handsome David will look when he is old, except about a foot taller.)

Both G-ma and G-pa are very sweet people. Dale always has a joke, works as a Barber for his very own Dale's Barber Shop (in his Basement) and whittles in his free time. He grew up as one of 21 kids. No, that was not a typo, 21! Dale's Mom and Dad both had 7 kids from different marriages and then they had 7 more together when they got married. Needless to say, David has no idea how many second cousins he has! We found out that he had a Grandma Lucy who was full blood Cherokee Indian. I was excited Lucy's name had family heritage, especially that of an Indian (except I'm wondering why she had such a modern name instead of howling Wolf or something...)

I love this beautiful shot of Great Grandpa Dale and Lucy. I will cherish it forever!

Here is the adorable rocking horse Grandpa made for Lucy! Grandpa and Grandma are quite the team when it comes to making things. Dale makes them and Betty paints them and makes them cute! What a special present I'm sure Lucy will truly learn to cherish (although right now all she wants to do is eat the hair. We will put it up for a little while until she is old enough to brush the hair instead!)

David's G-ma, on the other hand, is very caring and concerned about all her Grandchildren. She always gives us phone calls and is the first to invite us to breakfast when we are in town! She is definitely a very sweet Granny!

I was thrilled about this picture. Although Lucy isn't smiling, Betty is! I don't think I have seen a single picture of her smiling and I am going to brag forever that I got one of her!

Thanks for all of your love throughout the years G-ma and G-pa! We are lucky to have you!

Lucy This Week

I thought we would give you a little glimpse of Lucy's personality these days...

Lucy has always loved her tongue. Now she is really enjoying the different sounds she can make! Watch Lucy's tongue tricks here:

I love this trick. I go around mimicking Lucy all day and am really starting to feel like, just a silly big kid!That is one of my favorite parts of being a parent... you definitely get all that built up silliness out!

Babies are definitely born with their own personality! Neither David nor I have ever really been thrilled by Mariachi music, but apparently Lucy has a little Latin Sass from somewhere! While flipping through the stations, trying to distract Lucy, we found that none of the stations really did anything, except the Spanish station. She just started moving! For your enjoyment we caught a little clip:



This is pretty much what Lucy is like these days. She also started crawling backward, although I am pretty sure she is trying to crawl forward. The other day she was trying to get closer to me and just kept getting farther. Every time she moved she got a little more upset until she was far away and starting to cry. It was a very funny scene, despite the fact that our daughter was very sad.

We are watching her personality emerge everyday. As much as I thought I liked being a Mom before, I am finding that it is really starting to become an absolute joy! I have moments everyday where I am just tickled by the new skill Lucy Masters or a cute smile she gives me (sometimes I just enjoy it and then other times I run for the camera as you can see). I can't help giving her little hugs and kissing her head all day long! I even wrote a poem about her at 2 a.m. a few nights ago! What a Crazy Mom! Hey when you get the inspiration you gotta do it! And watching your little baby sleep definitely puts me in a "Life is Beautiful" kind of inspirational mood! I am also currently working on a children's story about Lucy. I don't really know how to get published, but after reading Lucy some rather dull stories in my opinion, I thought "I could write one of these!" It is turning out really sweet (maybe I will put a sneak peak up on my blog one of these days) and I am really excited! If any of you are artists and think you could help me out, please let me know! I seriously lack art skills! There are probably 3rd graders who are better than me! Of course, I have seen some pretty bad art in some of these books as well! Anyway, for now...all is well in the Pendergrass Home!

Newborn's Conversation with God

I got this adorable poem from Renee's Blog (thanks Renee) I thought it was perfect for mother's day. It really captures what it means to be Mother, trusted with a little spirit from heaven.

I hope I will be able to help Lucy remember who her Heavenly Father is and how much he loves her as I was taught by my sweet mother. I am only starting to see how much our Heavenly Father loves us as I raise this sweet and loving baby girl. Sometimes I just don't think I can tell her I love her, or kiss her enough. I know we are this precious and much more to our Heavenly Father. Thank You Lucy for making me a Mother on my first Mother's Day. And A special Thank You Mother on this 23rd Mother's day you have celebrated, for teaching me how to be a good mother by your loving example. Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed at the task of Motherhood I look up to you and think, "If my Mom could do it, so can I." I really never realized the countless hours of love, care, worry and prayers that were put into making me the person I am today. Thank You for waking up for me when I was a baby, for keeping up with me when I was a toddler, for putting up with me while I was a teenager and now lifting me up as a Mother. You are truly the best Mother and Friend a girl could hope for! I can never thank you enough and dedicate this to you, My Angel Mother!

Home Sweet Home

We returned from our adventures in Spokane on Monday. Funny Travel Story: While going through security the security ID Checker guy pointed out that my ID says "Wendy Pendegrass" and my boarding pass says "Wendy Pendergrass." I got this license about a year ago and I never noticed that they left out the "R" before and neither did any of the billion people who checked my ID in the last year! Luckily the guy was nice and said I looked honest and he would let me pass, but that I should get it changed.

As fun as it is to travel, coming home is just wonderful! And this time it was better than ever because all of Provo had blossomed while we were away. I felt like we returned to a completely different place! To celebrate our joy we went on a walk early this morning over to BYU Campus to admire the changing scenery.

I decided my new hobby is going to be photography, so I went crazy taking pictures from different angles. Some of them turned out pretty good! Here is what I got:

What a beautiful day! The one problem with my new found photography hobby is that David has to be the subject a lot and he doesn't really like posing for photos. Thanks Dave for putting up with your nutty wife who always asks for just one more picture!

p.s. I have a lot to post from the last two weeks and I am just going to date everything on the day it happened instead of have a million posts all on one day!

Lucy's new favorite thing to do: Pet the kitty! For the first time ever Lucy started making whining, kind of screachy mad noises. Yeah, whenever she saw the kitty she started whining because she wanted to go touch it! I think it is neat that she is at a stage where she is realizing she has her own agenda, minus the whiny screachy noise, of course.
